Dear Doctor, I am experiencing multiple lipomas across my body, including visible lumps and smaller ones under the skin. These are especially noticeable in a line along my back and around my nipples. Recently, I’ve also observed an increase in small lumps throughout my body. I would like your advice on diagnosis

Dear Arun ji,

Lipomas are soft, non-cancerous fatty lumps under the skin. Though usually harmless, multiple or growing lipomas should be evaluated to rule out rare conditions like familial multiple lipomatosis.

Diagnosis Steps

  • Start with a clinical exam by a surgeon or dermatologist

  • Tests may include ultrasound, FNAC, or biopsy for confirmation

When to Consider Treatment

  • Painful, growing, or numerous lipomas

  • Causing nerve pressure, posture issues, or visible discomfort

  • Cosmetic concerns affecting confidence

Treatment & Recovery

  • Surgical excision is the most effective and ensures full removal

  • Liposuction may be used for multiple small, superficial lipomas (slightly higher recurrence risk)

  • Usually day-care procedures with 2–5 days recovery

  • Stitches out in 5–10 days; minimal scarring with proper care

  • Follow-up ensures healing and checks recurrence
